Lifestyles for Better Living

Harmonizing With Inevitability

Truly, the only thing that is constant in people's lives is change - and the twin brother of change is inevitability. Because of the complex interaction of different factors in physical reality, sometimes, events happen beyond our control. These inevitable events can cause a lot of worrying on your part. You must learn how to harmonize yourself with inevitability, because it really is a fixed variable in our Universe.

Once you accept the inevitable, you can exert control over your reality once again by improving your conditions after the inevitable has already occurred.

Humans are never truly helpless. The Universe provides a way for you to modify your reality and create new components. Acceptance is an important tool in conquering worry because once you stop fighting the inevitable (which is futile war in itself), you start to focus on the more important stuff in your life - such as the problems that you can solve easily.

Why focus on things that you can no longer modify? Just focus on problems that you can easily solve so you'll be able to accomplish more in a shorter timeframe. If you're bound to lose something important (like your job), you need to focus on your options after the event has already transpired. In essence, you'll be empowering yourself by creating options and solutions.

Putting a Stop-Loss on Personal Worries

We can all learn something from the determined speculators of Wall Street. These folks use a special order called a "stop-loss order" when they speculate and buy stocks. What is a stop-loss order? A stop-loss order allows stocks to be automatically sold once a value/price limit has been reached.

For example, let's say you bought one hundred stocks of Company ABC for $5.00 per stock. You don't want to lose all of your money if the stock turns out to be a bad one, so you put a stop-loss order on your stocks. You tell your broker to put a stop-loss of $4.00 on your stocks so you won't lose so much money when the stock's price goes down. If the stock's price does go down, your stocks will be sold immediately once the limit of $4.00 is reached.

Let's apply this to worrying. You can very well put a stop-loss order on your worries. For example, if you get anxious because of your boss' orders at work, put a stop-loss order on your worrying.

Ask yourself: do I really want to worry about this right now? You will be actively questioning your conscious choice to worry about something and you will fight the urge to worry because worrying doesn't improve your situation at all.

So from now on, if something bothers you routinely, I want you to put a stop-loss order on that particular 'worry trigger.' Do this frequently enough, and you'll be able to control your worries efficiently.

Worried individuals are often very cynical and negative about the world at large. It can be quite difficult to fight off worry and many other negative emotions if you continue to harbor a very negative view of the world. If you believe in the law of attraction, let me remind you of the most basic precept of the law of attraction: like attracts like. When a person chooses to have positive thoughts and positive emotions, they attract more positivity into their life.

Inversely, a person who chooses to be negative all the time, in their heart and in their mind, is bound to attract only negative elements from the Universe itself. The Universe hears and sees what people desire deep down. So if you keep saying to yourself that you have the most unrewarding job in the world, you will most likely stay in that job for a long time and it will be very difficult to find a job that actually pays well and satisfies you not just on the financial level.

So try to shift from the negative to the positive whenever you can. Sometimes all it takes is a big smile to change your mood (even your mood counts!). If your worries are getting you down, it's important to engage in activities that interest you and make you feel good. Once you add happiness to the equation, the impact of chronic worrying is reduced significantly.

Try These Positive Affirmations

I encourage everyone to start attracting a more positive and rewarding life by thinking positive thoughts and choosing positive emotions over negative ones. One of the easiest ways to enhance positivity in your life is by using affirmations.

Affirmations can be used to end worry because as you state the affirmations, you are also setting goals for yourself. Ultimately, these goals will address problems that are causing you grief and worry. The following are some common positive affirmations that you can use every day:
  1. I will strive to always be happy regardless of the problems that come my way. I will not focus on the negative, but instead, I will focus on what makes me smile and what makes me happy.
  2. I will strive to be a more flexible individual because I believe that those who can easily adapt are also better suited to handle stress and worry.
  3. I will strive to be a better guardian of my own mind and body. If I need to exercise, I will do it regularly. If I need to relax or meditate to cleanse my mind, I will do it without hesitation and with joy.
  4. I will strive to become a better person by not criticizing others and by being more mindful of what I say to people. I will do this because I want to create positivity in my life and in the lives of those around me.
